Honeymoon in Chennai

We finally had our honeymoon!! After 1,5 years of marriage hehe. After struggling to find the “perfect place” and piling up so much anxiety about a holiday I eventually gave up the whole planning and reading bad reviews of resorts. We decided to plan the trip in less than a week’s time, I applied for an urgent visa to India and we went for our favorite resort in Chennai; Vivanta by Taj Fisherman’s Cove.

People might think, why Chennai? Well, the resort has everything you want for a honeymoon: exclusive villas by the beach, 3 restaurants, lovely spa, a private beach and top service. Plus it’s really affordable as compared to some popular tourist resorts.

We had a sea-facing cottage with amazing beach view, a terrace and an outdoor shower. Even though the cottage rate is double as compared to the regular room rate, it’s worth it, because you get privacy and exclusivity.

Believe it or not, but this authentic South-Indian cuisine beach restaurant is not our favorite at the resort (even though it’s really good!), but the best one is definitely the Upper Deck. It’s facing the other part of the beach and gardens of the resort. I have no photos from there because we only went there for dinner and it was dark. Food is amazing there and the service is super. The same manager was there as he were when we were living in Chennai. Truly a place worth visiting for a special dinner!

There are some negatives to this resort as well. Some parts need updating and they are renovating the older rooms at the resort. The rooms are not insulated very well and noises carry through them. Also, you cannot really swim in the sea as the waves are so strong and powerful. Some cottages are not so private as you can see to the other cottages or onto the walkway.

But the food is amazing, spa is great and the service is of that Indian hospitality which I have never seen anywhere in the world! The best part of our honeymoon was definitely our badminton, table tennis and billiards championship games 😂😂. Two competitive people who hate losing playing these all day long  haha.
